WordPress Plugin Ultimate tag Warrior Last Version. The End Of An Era.

Christine Davis has announced the final version of Ultimate Tag Warrior.

This plugin has come a very long way since it's debut. It has matured very nicely with changes we've seen in both WordPress and in blogging in general.

It's one of those WordPress plugins that was just an automatic install every time I installed a new blog. I have all of it's functions stored as snippets in HTMLkit so I can easily add it to every theme I design.

I remember wrestling with the code for days trying to make my first tag page before the tag page templates were introduced. People were posting what they tried to the forum at Neato, discussing what worked and what didn't and hammering out different methods.

Sure there were other tagging plugins available, but they weren't Ultimate Tag Warrior. And Any thing less simply wasn't Ultimate. It's really kind of bittersweet that on the day I open up Blog Strokes, I find the Final Version Post for UTW. I guess I knew that eventually WordPress would have to roll this into the core code, but still, you always remember your first.

Christine has also dressed Neato up in a new theme. Be sure to swing by and check it out. Looks Good.

I really worry about things

I really worry about things I rely on being brought into the WP core.
It might however mean that we can get more support for tagging from desktop software such as Windows Livewriter.
I have tried a few hacks but I couldn't get it working.

That's great news. It almost

That's great news. It almost wouldn't be a blog without a UTW folder. ;)

I'm looking to release most

I'm looking to release most of the UTW functionality in smaller plugins; so with any luck, the same magic will keep on happening (: I just won't have to concern myself with the nitty-gritty of storing tags quite so much (;
