Reading Andy's Blog: A Study In Linking Concepts.

Do you read Andy Beard's Blog? I've "known" Andy for quite a while now. We aren't what you'd call friends, but we are definately aquaintances. I first encountered Andy on the How To Forum. Additionally we've exchanged a handful of emails and talked in a couple closed customer only forums for products in which we share common interests.

Andy is definately the kind of guy I'd like to get to know better, and I do hope that over time we get to know each other more. We have a lot of similar interests, and I can tell he's the kind of guy who needs to know both the how and the why of the way things work.

Unlike a lot of others who have that drive to know, Andy also has a drive to apply. He is right now working on a project that he simply won't tell me a lot about yet, but the hints he's droped, both in his blog and in an email or two, leave me with that 8 year old at Christmas kind of energetic, barely contained anxiousness. I can't wait to see what he cooks up.

particularly I'm talking about linking. And not just linking, but intentional linking. Linking with purpose.

Andy turned me on to an eBook I'd not read before on the subject in this post at his blog; Revenge Of The Mininet. It's an ebook about how to intelligently link your site's pages together and how to link from site to site as well. The ideas in this ebook, and the update website that comes with it are very very interesting, and I'm going to be implementing some of these ideas as tests on various sites.

Additionally, this post; How a Blogroll can kill your Pagerank, has me ready to just do away with my side bar. I had already enclosed my blogrolls and links inside a condition loop so they only show on the frot page of the blog, but I'm really thinking about going further. Read around, there are several other posts there that address this and similar linking issues as well.
