So Much More Than Just Another Inbox

The Only Other Inbox You'll Ever Need

Other InboxOtherInbox is a revolutionary new take on the old idea of the throwaway email box. If you're anything like me, as an Internet Marketer and or as a Blogger you'll have many many opportunities in the course of a day to type your email address into some box somewhere to gain access to some information or some information stream.

Update: Joshua has set up 25 invites to this private beta for my readers. You can claim yours here if you're quick enough.
http://beta.otherinbox.com/signup/danemorgan

The problem is in managing all of those emails in a significant and meaningful way. I know my inbox is simply unmanageable these days. Inbox Zero has become a bit of an El Dorado Quest for me. How about yours?

I have a handful of throwaway and limited or marginal use email addresses, a couple of low priority boxes and a number of "main" email addresses as well. Every time I ask for some information, buy something, want to access something or need another account for something, it's a chore to decide where to send the email.

I even tried for a little while setting up one use email addresses on my main domain, but it was a major chore to log in, create the box, set it up in Thunderbird if I wanted desktop delivery and then type it into a box that was really there to capture me on an impulse decision in the first place.

Later I thought I had found the answer in Gmail's ability to add a prefix+ to the Gmail address. but unfortunately many many places simply won't accept and email address with a '+' character in it.

The whole problem is solved now though. OtherInbox lets you set up a subdomain account and then you can set up as many inboxes for that subdomain as you care to.

And it's drop dead easy to set up a new inbox. You just create a new username portion for the email when you are giving the email out. If you're signing up for a Twitter account just use twitter@yourdomain.otherinbox.com. Or use danemorgan@yourdomain.otherinbox.com to sign up for an email from me.

Now each batch of emails goes into it's own inbox, all accessible from the same place. This lets you put all of your newsletter subscriptions, email alerts, social network profiles and everything else into an easy to use, instantly created separate email inbox, and reserve your "main" email for those emails that should command your instant and undivided attention. Emails from close friends, family and partners can go into a nice fresh uncluttered box and be dealt with on the fly, and you can get to the rest of that stuff latter on your own schedule.

I think they need to create a new Nobel Prize so that can give it to these guys.

This is perfect.

I was in the need of something exactly like this. Our current webhost doesn't allow a catchall for email adresses for some reason. This will do the job perfectly!

This seems like a nice little improvement/tool on the war on spam but I still dream of the day where I don't get those V1grIa titled emails!

I have a couple of 'junk email' accounts but I still get spam in my personal accounts too! So annoying.

Yeah, emails can be a problem especially when you sign up with so many different offers or newsletters over the time. So what I usually end up doing with each email address is setting up different folders for certain topics or types of email. Of course you manually move the mails to these folders so bascially having this done automatically sounds sweet.

Easiest

I find it just as easy to have auto logged in emails on different sites. One on AIM, one on Yahoo, one on Live, one on Gmail, and whatever service you have. If you use the same site you have to go through and choose emails. There are also plugins that can help manage your emails that are on similar sites much easier.

I have 4 email accounts for my stuff. One for my work/friends/money, another one for kinda important accounts (ebay, couple message boards), another one for online shops I'll never again visit but need to be able to find in future "just in case" and one strictly for spam. I've never had problems with deciding which one I should choose for a specific site.

Sometimes I just dread opening my email!

This sounds like a practical solution to "email floods".

I just hate coming home after a short vacation and getting a screen full of useless emails...perhaps this might just solve the problem.

Anymore invites coming anytime soon?

Tony Lee (not verified) | Tue, 03/10/2009 - 14:47

Sounds typical

I agree with most of the posters on here. This sounds like a practical tool that does not have many benefits. I like using gmail account because they are pretty good with weening out junk and spam mail. I mean, most of the time I use my email for business practices or just to sign up for things, not for my family and stuff. But, I guess...

OtherInbox

There is definitely a need for such a service.

Besides the fact that you can create emails easily, I think the real value is in organizing all those incoming emails and let you get back to it depending on their priority.

Good service. I missed the invites, but I am hoping they send me one soon.

wow

i've only been dreaming about this idea for the last two years ever since i really, REALLY maximized the use of my email. i used to create multiple email addresses so that the important work emails are separated from the emails forwarded by friends, and separated from my subscription to different sites, and still different from the email i use to purchase things online. i know it's crazy and i'm primitive, so this is really a big help. i just need to know before i use it, it works awesome right?

email and dofollow blogs

I think most of us involved with online businesses need someway to manage it. I get lots of spam.

As a blogger I also have found that many of my commenters leave non-working email addresses.

By the wa, I have listed this blog as a dofollow blog and send a few readers your way. I've linked to the page above.

I'm in the process of updating the rankings and providing a bit of information about each site. Updates should be up by Wednesday. Let me know if you'd like to change yours.

Warmly,

Several Inboxes

Thanks for the tips, I will check out Other Inbox! I have a few throw away boxes as well and one main email address for my business. You get so much spam and other crap delivered every day that you must have several throw away addresses you can use when you sign up for something.

Tom Lindstrom (not verified) | Thu, 01/08/2009 - 04:39

Seems like a good idea

Anyuthing that will make segregation of e.mail into different boxes seems an excellent notion to me.

We all sign up for things like traffic programmes and the like and have a gmail account for that which gets basically ignored and builds into the thousands but we still get masses to the main address too.

Worth a try

Instead of the symbol before a gmail address we can try for alphabet or some special character that looks more attractive.
